Chapter Programs

SIM San Diego gives back to the community through scholarships, mentorship, community involvement initiatives, and educational programs. We maintain active academic relationships with SDSU, USD, PLNU and CSUSM, supporting students by participating in class presentations, judging poster sessions, inviting students to chapter meetings, and participating in curriculum development.
And we put our money where it matters: helping to fund the leaders of tomorrow by annually awarding a set of $5,000 scholarships.

Professional support - SIM's Members-In-Transition (MIT) Program is our go-to resource whether you are in transition or simply keeping an eye out for your next opportunity. The MIT Program offers top-notch resources from major search firms, tips for managing your career, and much more. SIM members can participate in the weekly conference calls and email groups where leads and advice are shared.

SIM Women - a network inside the Society for Information Management to promote communication, mentorship, leadership and career development amongst the female members of SIM. We especially recommend looking at their webinars, coaching and 1:1 mentoring opportunities.

Targeted industry insights - SIM's Advanced Practices Council (APC) is a community of CIOs who commission academic research on IT management topics. APC research reports feature real-world case studies and applications, providing important actionable insights that are made available to all SIM members.

Each year, SIM conducts a survey of its members to gauge trends within our industry. The responses from our experienced membership helps to benchmark various areas within the IT industry such as major issues, technologies, sourcing, CIO roles, staffing, spending, and salaries. The valuable survey input allows SIM to speak with a unified voice for our members, who are among the most accomplished and innovative leaders in the industry.

IT Trends is widely recognized as one of the most representative barometers of the information technology industry, and has been featured in major business and IT media as well as academic publications.

Leadership development - SIM's Regional Leadership Forum (RLF) is an intensive, nine-month program focused on creating authentic leaders. It is designed to help CIOs develop their high potential IT leaders/managers. SIM members receive a discount.

If things like alignment, rapid introduction, complexity reduction, speed and agility are design objectives that answer the question "What do we want it to look like?" then perhaps at least part of the answer to the question "How do we accomplish it?" is Enterprise Architecture (EA).
But, perhaps the question we should be asking ourselves is, "can IT afford not to seize the opportunity to be 'the keeper of all the knowledge' about the enterprise?" Being the keeper of the EA has the potential to ensure IT's seat at the strategic table.
The SIM Enterprise Architecture Working Group is an all-volunteer group of Enterprise Architecture (EA) practitioners, academics, and thought leaders from more than 20 different industry, government, and academic organizations, dedicated to understanding and improving EA practices, and helping IT professionals and their organizations capitalize on the opportunities of EA.

The objectives of the SIM Information Technology Procurement Working Group are to:

• create a forum to share concerns, strategy and exchange information on managing IT procurement
• provide a vehicle for improving IT acquisition management and execution.
• provide a vehicle to enhance the competitiveness of high tech consumers through informed procurement management and by influencing legislation affecting acquisitions.
• foster collaboration between the different professions participating in the IT procurement process

Our Vision: The cybersecurity SIG will promote and provide strategic, timely, actionable, and business-focused content and discussion around cybersecurity issues, trends, and best practices, while building and sustaining a high-value network of cybersecurity thought leaders.
