SIM is an association that continually demonstrates its commitment to giving back to the community and supporting STEM initiatives. In 2020, this has become much more important and many of the non-profits supported by the Chapters really need our support in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
SIM National is planning a Giveback Week later this year and will create a marketing campaign and provide social media coverage and swag (volunteer t-shirts, etc.) for chapter events. The exact dates for the campaign are dependent upon the recovery from the health crisis and will be announced as soon as available.
But for now, Chapters are encouraged to start planning a “giving activity” which will resonate with the chapter's membership. This could include fundraising, volunteering for a local non-profit, mentoring/resume review for a local college, gathering donations (i.e. tech-related), etc. Chapters are also encouraged to incorporate the following into your plans:
- Engage RLF, both current and past participants, to increase the reach
- Set a giving goal ($$ raised, %of members engaged in volunteer activity, impact, etc.)
SIM plans to secure a corporate sponsor(s) who could fund SIM’s Giveback Campaign. If you have a chapter sponsor who might be interested, please send the info to Cynthia McKenzie or Nanci Schimizzi.
