Data Discovery through Visual Analytics

Gartner sees a "shifting tide of BI platform requirements, moving from reporting-centric to analysis-centric, (meaning) the majority of BI vendors will make governed data discovery capabilities an expansion of, and the prime competitive capability for, their BI platform offerings." Visual Analytics solution providers understand the changing requirements of enterprise BI buyers - dynamic analytical tools, rapid deployment capabilities, predictive modeling and simulation. That's why they are stealing business from the enterprise BI vendors.

You are invited to join Fairfield/Westchester SIM for a panel discussion on June 12 where we will explore the evolution underway in the BI marketplace that is driving the success of solutions like Qlikview, Tableau and Spotfire. We are bringing together a group of service providers and practitioners with direct experience implementing these solutions. The focus of the discussion will be how these solutions compare to traditional BI, the complexities of deployment and the resultant benefits achieved.

Fairfield/Westchester SIM May Program
Applying Cyber Counter-Intelligence to Private Sector
Information Security Decision Making
___________________________________________________

ABOUT THE EVENT

A Unique Perspective on Global Cyber Security Threats

The Information Security Forum recently listed the top ten cyber security threats over the next two years.  They included cyber espionage, a balkanized Internet, malware targeting mobile apps, the failure of standard encryption and the growing skill gaps.  These threats are global in nature and focused on nation states more than commercial enterprises.  They are threats not easily addressed by a company’s information security strategy but instead require cooperation between governments, service providers, major technology companies and industry consortiums.

Israel Martinez, President & CEO of Axon Global Services

Fairfield/Westchester SIM is very pleased to welcome Israel Martinez, President & CEO of Axon Global Services as the guest speaker at our May 15th meeting.  Mr. Martinez is the author of “What Every CEO Should Know Before, During and After a Cyber Attack” and is a recognized leader in Enterprise Risk Management, Cyber Security, Cyber Counter Intelligence and Digital Identity.  His firm, Axon, is dedicated to the relentless pursuit of exceptional technologies, intelligence and executive management practices in Cyber Critical Infrastructure Protection.

Throughout a diverse career, Mr. Martinez has worked directly with the Israeli Defense Forces and Israeli Cyber Research Centers on the latest cyber warfare techniques.  He has also been an advisor on cyber incident response strategies to the NASA Kennedy Space Center and the National Healthcare Information and Analysis Center.  Today, he and his colleagues at Axon bring this expertise to Fortune 500 companies who face similar threats in their commercial environments.

Mr. Martinez will be sharing with FWSIM his perspective on the cyber threats our country will face in the next few years, and what world governments are doing today to prepare a cyber counter-intelligence response.  He will also discuss how corporations must adapt their business and technology strategies to prepare for these new threats.  During this chapter meeting, there will be plenty of time for Q&A so come prepared to explore those areas of information security that present the greatest risk to your business results, your intellectual property and your employees.

Hunter Muller, President and CEO of HMG Strategy, LLC

Hunter Muller is the President and CEO of HMG Strategy, LLC, the fastest growing provider of innovative thought leadership and networking events for CIOs and senior IT executives. Hunter is a globally respected IT strategist with more than 20 years of experience in IT leadership consulting and research. His concepts have been used successfully by corporations worldwide to improve executive performance, enhance collaboration, elevate the role of IT, and align strategy across the enterprise. Hunter's focus over the past seven years has been researching the work and leadership styles of top transformational executives at leading organizations around the world. He has built an extensive network of senior IT leaders at companies such as: IBM, Microsoft, VMware, Boeing, McKesson, Caterpillar, Flextronics International, Intel, Waste Management, Shell Oil, CVS Caremark, Terex, Boston Scientific, Salesforce.com and many more. Given his research findings, Hunter has published several books: The Transformational CIO (Wiley, March 2011) and On Top of the Cloud (Wiley, January 2012). Given the unprecedented opportunity IT leaders have today to drive innovation and business results, Hunter's third book, Leading the Epic Revolution, was published in early 2013. As a result Hunter's unique position of knowing the thoughts, challenges, and opportunities of the IT Leader, he is asked to speak at a variety of venues such as IBM's Cloud Expo and on TheStreet.com. Hunter and HMG Strategy support a variety of IT related charities, and Hunter personally gives back his time and ideas as a member of the Executive Committee of the Fairfield/Westchester Chapter of the Society for Information Management as a Director.

New Date!
 Monday, February 24, 2014 - Converged Infrastructure

"Is this technology the silver bullet that CIOs have been seeking to reduce costs yet meet demanding business needs?"

Your business demands are increasing, the rate of change is evolving and new risks and regulations are now demanding your attention. At the same time, IT is expected to do more with less. That is true for organizations in all industries and of all sizes.

A dynamic technology framework that enables cost reduction and technology simplification, Converged Infrastructure is a solution consisting of inter-operable pools of shared resources (servers, storage & network) designed to deliver flexibility and scalability to meet these rapidly changing demand for services. For CIOs, it is a way to drive cost reductions from complex data centers, improve security and address regulatory compliance requirements.

In this discussion, Ernst & Young will demystify the concept and highlight everything a CIO, from companies large and small, needs to know about the benefits of a software based converged infrastructure. You will also see how running applications in this environment will realize high performance, linear scalability and predictable economics.

January 16th, 2014 - Leadership - Leading Highly Effective Teams

About The Program:
Do you struggle at times with leading your team?  Is communications a struggle because of knowledge gaps, generational gaps, trust issues?  Does everyone on your team seem to have different ideas about what's important?  For some of us, that sounds like our family life, as well.  On January 16th, Jay Leader, CIO of Rapid7, will ask the question "Is leadership that different than parenting?"   Jay shares his secrets on what it takes to be a great leader and CIO and admits that much of what he knows about being a leader was learned through his family, particularly relationships with his father and his children.

Following a highly reviewed presentation at NJ SIM, Jay will join us for an entertaining evening of discussions about effective leadership.  Come prepared to challenge your assumptions about team dynamics.  Consider in advance your most difficult employees or peer relationships.  Jay will use his experiences as CIO and father to provide suggestions that will improve your effectiveness as a leader.
