2018 Outreach Initiatives

Alan Stanford Scholarships

To support future technology leaders, the Society for Information Management Indy Chapter will award $2,000 Alan Stanford Scholarships to four students from the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI. The recipients will receive their awards during the 44th annual Bepko Awards Ceremony Convocation.
 

Indiana Aspiration in Computing Awards

SIM Indianapolis is a proud sponsor of the annual NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Award, giving $3,500 in partnership with Women & Hi-Tech. The NCWIT Indiana Award for Aspirations in Computing honors young women at the high-school level for their computing achievements. Awardees are chosen for their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary education.
 


TYF4Y VEX Robotics

The Indy chapter will continue as a silver level sponsor in 2018, providing $10,000 annually to the VEX Robotics program. The VEX Robotic initiative is a state-wide program focusing on STEM education in schools using school-sponsored robotics teams. The sponsorship enables schools to have access to robotics kits and participate in city and state competitions. The TechPoint Foundation for Youth VEX Robotics program has expanded to over 800 schools across Indiana, reaching thousands of students.
 

Northview Robotics Club

For the third year, SIM Indianapolis will continue its sole-sponsorship of the Robotics Club at Northview Middle School in Washington Township. The Indy chapter provides $2,000 to the club for the VEX or First Lego League Robotics competitions.
 

WinIT Women in Technology Summer Camp

The Indy chapter will provide $3,250 for the 2018 WinIT Women in Technology summer camp held at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), marking the third year where SIM Indianapolis is covering expenses for five camp attendees.
 

Nextech Teacher Sponsorship

SIM Indianapolis will provide $10,000 for Computer Science (CS) Professional Development (PD) of three K-12 teachers. The teachers will be across the state of Indiana, helping to expand the outreach impact of the SIM Indy Chapter. With the sponsorship, the teachers will be able to provide year-long computer science education and reach an estimated 500+ students across Indiana.
 

CoderDojo Indiana Hackathon

SIM Indianapolis will sponsor $500 for TechPoint Foundation for Youth’s CoderDojo Indiana Hackathon initiative, which is for kids age 7-17. The event focuses on activities and coding competitions to increase STEM awareness.
 

WinIT Women in Technology Summer Camp

The Indy chapter will provide $3,250 for the 2018 WinIT Women in Technology summer camp held at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), marking the third year where SIM Indianapolis is covering expenses for five camp attendees.
 

Eleven Fifty Academy Scholarships

The Indy chapter will provide $3,250 for the 2018 WinIT Women in Technology summer camp held at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), marking the third year where SIM Indianapolis is covering expenses for five camp attendees. Starting in 2018, SIM Indy will provide $7,000 to give eight merit and needs-based scholarships to professionals attending the Eleven Fifty Academy where they will learn computer science skills to enrich their professional careers. The partnership with Eleven Fifty Academy will expand the scope of SIM Indy’s outreach to professional students.
 

IvyTech Works

New in 2018, SIM Indianapolis will provide $3,500 to Ivy Tech as part of their IvyTech Works program for adult women seeking to advance their career in a technology-focused field.
 

iWIT - Women in Technology

Partnering with Indy Women in Tech (iWIT), SIM Indianapolis will launch a custom 2018 outreach program for women in technology to expand diversity and inclusion within Indiana’s technology industry.
 

SIM Women Indianapolis

SIM Indianapolis has launched a professional development outreach series for women in technology. The outreach program is funded and administered by the SIM Indy Chapter Board and its members with the objective to enrich the capabilities of technology professionals throughout 2018. The curriculum will be multi-tiered to include attendance at national SIM events, mentorship of young professionals, executive leadership coaching for tenured individuals, and skills training for all attendees.
