|2011 SIM Leader of the Year|
The Leader of the Year awards program was developed as a means to recognize service to SIM and advancement of SIM participation and involvement among members of the IT community. Below you will find bios for our four outstanding leaders.
Leader of the Year, Extra Large Chapters
Kevin is the Vice President of Information Technology at the May Institute, but he still finds time in his busy schedule to lead a growing and dynamic chapter and make meaningful contributions to SIM International.
Under his leadership the Boston Chapter continues to expand program offerings. At last count, the Boston Chapter exceeded 45 regularly scheduled events and four annual events that include three CIO Forums and an Annual Golf Outing.
A 2005 Northeast RLF graduate, Kevin in 2010 re-launched the Society for Information Management Wikipedia entry, and he helped establish and continues to contribute to the SIM Social Media initiatives, as the the top contributor to the SIM Connect group on LinkedIn. Moreover, any member who participates in any of the SIM national conference calls and committees, Kevin is often involved and can be counted on to share Boston’s best practices from social media, marketing, and membership to planning and delivering top programs.
Leader of the Year, Large Chapters
David is a founder of the St. Louis Chapter and currently serves on the Chapter Board.
He was the President of the St. Louis Chapter in 2005 during a crucial point in the chapter’s development, and under his leadership, the chapter grew to over 100 members. His additional contributions to SIM and the St. Louis chapter are too numerous to list, but include his leadership of two major events each year:
He also helps raise the awareness and visibility of SIM through his membership and participation in the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Grow Association and through his work with the St. Louis Business Journal.
Leader of the Year, Medium Chapters
In addition to service as an active member of the Central Florida chapter, Joel has championed and approved multiple chapter memberships from his company. He is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for CNL Financial Group. In this position, he oversees technical strategic planning and architecture, application development, information security, telecommunications and network operations.
The former CFO of FedEx said of Joel's nomination:
"Joel has my vote for IT leader of the year. He is not just an IT leader, but a strong business executive who has a passion for driving change in the business – sometimes through IT, sometimes through process reengineering and sometimes through common sense, but always through partnering and building strong relationships…”
Joel is involved in membership growth, program development, and sponsorship development for the Central Florida chapter.
Leader of the Year, Small Chapters
Stacey has been heavily involved in membership development and has more than doubled chapter membership the last two years. But membership growth is not her only accomplishments, as she currently serves as the chapter Program Chair and helps SIM nationally by serving on the committee that advises chapter program chairs across SIM. She has also played a key role in launching and building the SIM Members in Transition program. She forged a partnership with a Denver-area IT Executives In Transition group which led to an increase in chapter membership while helping members in transition.
Her speakers and programs for the chapter are often engaging, with topics that usually elicit spirited discussions and debates. Stacey actively supports the Youth in IT program, which connects students with local CIOs.
