iFair: Experience the Future

Explore Careers in Information Technology and Engineering

sponsored by the Business and Education Advisory Board of
Washington HS of Information Technology

Mission of the event

Provide valuable, informative, educational experiences promoting careers in Information Technology and Engineering focusing primarily on students in grades 7-10

Goals

Provide free bus transportation for about 400-600 students primarily from schools to visit business and post-secondary school booths set up in a trade-show like setting, experience robotics, interact with the students and opportunities at WHS of IT, and talk to young professionals in these fields during a panel discussion. The invited students are currently taking a course using either the MPS-sponsored IT curriculum or the Project Lead The Way curriculum at the middle or high-school level. Visiting students will be on campus for approximately 1-1/2 hours.

Other visitors will include about 50 WHSoIT students, guidance counselors at middle and high school levels, the WHSoIT Advisory Board, various dignitaries including city, county, state, and federal officials and politicians.

National Center for Women in Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing honors high school girls who are active and interested in computing and technology, and encourages them to pursue their passions. This multi-tiered competition includes recognition at the national level and at the local level, serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and all U.S. overseas military bases.

Each local award taps into the powerful network of NCWIT Alliance members: teams from academia, non-profit organizations, startups, and corporations that come together to build a community of support for young girls interested in computing.
