Program Information:
In a recent SIM SD session we explored the dynamic people challenges inherent in our organizations. In this program, Beth Summers, PhD will share concrete tips and techniques for people development. She will briefly review current programmatic best practices, and then focus on specific examples of how to develop individuals and teams as a leader and manager. Her insights into 2-fers, 3-fers, how to "developmentally delegate," conduct developmental staff meetings and create stretch assignments is both entertaining and immediately applicable to your world.
She will bring examples from her decades of experience, where Beth has observed and coached thousands of people. She will discuss examples of "leader bootstrapping" she learned while on the scene in the early days of Apple when unprecedented growth drove demand for leader development. She will cover some of the best practices learned from the Tom Peters Group, Charles Schwab and Dell during their high growth craziness. And finally, she will share expertise she learned during the last 15 years, where Beth has been a leading consultant in leadership development and a Master Associate for the Lominger leadership development toolkit (now a part of Korn-Ferry International).
Further description of her background is on her site www.BethSummers.com where some tips and examples are included as podcasts. Attire: Business Casual

How will our IT organization needs change in the next few years? What, if any key capabilities and skills do we need to support out businesses?
Businesses are asking to do more with less and to be more innovative. Unemployment is the highest it has been for technology professionals. Why are we as IT leaders continually fighting for key talent? Is San Diego losing the battle of recruiting to Silicon Valley? How do we manage doing more with less, while responding to more requests for a better work-life balance?
Our teams are comprised of Gen X (Baby Boomers), Gen Y (Millennial) and Gen Z (Internet Generation), each of which have key differences in how they learn, perform. It's not business as usual to attract and retain talent. What are some of the strategies to help manage a changing IT organization? 6:15 PM History of Stone Brewing, Ken Wright, Minister of Evangelism and Indoctrination at Stone Brewing
6:30 PM Adapting and Surviving Consumerization, Barb Gomoloski, Managing VP at Gartner
Consumerization is driving many changes to our enterprise IT strategy. The boundaries of the enterprise have shifted as the applications and services delivered to consumers are changing the employee expectations of their workplace applications and services. Consumer platforms such as iPhone and Android are being forced into enterprises, often before the enterprise understands the full impact of the security and management of these devices. How do companies manage and set expectations around what to "bring into” the organization? How do we get ahead of this Tsunami of requests to "keep up with the technology I have at home”?
About our Speakers:
Barb Gomoloski
Barbara Gomolski is managing vice president within the CIO Research group at Gartner. Ms. Gomolski has worked with clients to help them set IT investment levels and optimize the return on those investments. She also spearheaded Gartner's primary research in the area of IT spending for many years.
Ken Wright
While attending grad school, Ken Wright started working at Stone on weekends (mostly for the beer benefits). It soon became clear that folks who work at breweries are generally a much happier lot than those who work in academia, so Ken ditched the PhD path and entered the wonderful world of craft beer full time. As Stone's Minister of Indoctrination, Ken directs the highly acclaimed brewery tour program, makes media appearances and emcees special events. He has been with the brewery for seven years and has loved every minute of it.
