Due to increasing data volume and data’s high utility, there has been an explosion of capabilities in the possibilities in the past few years brought into the early mainstream. Many are confused by the value of Hadoop, data warehouse appliances and stream processing and their seemingly conflicting value propositions with current information management infrastructure. The key to making the correct data storage selection is an understanding of your workloads – current, projected and envisioned.

Spring Kick-Off Meeting (Open to Golf Sponsors)

Location: Omni Park West [Map]

Topic: "How is the Economy Recovery for the Recent Recession?"

Speaker:  John V. Duca, PhD, VP and Sr Policy Adviser, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas

Dr. Duca will provided a perspective on how the economy is recovering from the recent recession, how the boom and bust in different markets is affecting the economy, and key factors impacting the pace of recovery.  Several key points that he made [Useful Research Notes]:

  •  The current recovery is not spread evenly across all sectors
  • The housing market is showing robust signs of recovery and should lead the economy back to health
  • Interest rates remain at historically low levels, but we should expect them to increase to normal levels eventually; however, bond spreads are higher than normal 2.05% margin spreads due to economic uncertainty in the US and abroad
  • The Federal Government needs to decrease uncertainty in the financial markets by clarifying its long-term and short-policy economic goals.
  • Stock market prices are quite bullish
  • Although Federal debt is high relative to GDP, it is sustainable at this level.

He has been a member of the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank since 1991.  Dr. Duca speaks regularly at varied forums and has published over 60 research papers.  He is a graduate of Princeton and Yale Universities.
