SIM RLF Facilitators



RLF’s distinguished group of facilitators has more than 200 years of IT leadership experience, knowledge and education.  They provide and facilitate the rich environment in which tomorrow’s leaders come to understand and enhance their leadership styles.  Since RLF’s inception more than two decades ago, program facilitators have helped develop, guide and expand RLF and its highly-regarded curriculum.  In each of the 2017 programs, one or more of the following experts will facilitate the sessions and nurture the participants throughout their RLF journey.


Christine Atkins  | Facilitator  | 

Christine Atkins has the perspective that comes from 15 years as a CIO, capping a 40-year career in technology management. She has served as CIO with four corporations ranging from small to large to global and found the fundamentals of success to be largely the same across the various industries. She has advised Google, Oracle and HP. Chris retired from Royal Ahold in 2013 and is a principal at Atkins & Cameron LLC, specializing in IT strategy. She previously served on the boards for Forsythe Technology and the SIM Chicago Chapter and is a 1995 Northeast RLF graduate.



Mike Benson  | Facilitator  | 


Mike Benson …  Mike is a strategic IT thought leader, architect and agent for change and growth with a 30-year spectrum of experience ranging from leading start-up environments and acquisitions to re-engineering in periods of market expansion and contraction in established businesses.  As former Executive VP and CIO for DIRECTV, Mike was responsible for creating and maintaining cutting edge technology solutions for the global business operations.  His capabilities in leadership and team-building were recently recognized when he was named to the CIO 100.





Bart Bolton  |   Facilitator  | 

With more than 35 years experience in IT management, Bart’s ­experience includes leading and managing multiple IT departments, consulting, educating, marketing and selling to the IT function. He has been facilitating the RLF since 1994 and the Leadership Development Roundtable (LDR) since 2001. He has worked with clients in their leadership development programs. He spent 17 years at Digital Equipment Corporation as a Manager of Consulting Services, MIS Marketing Manager and Manager of Field Information Systems. Prior to Digital, Bart was a Corporate Director of IS for an automotive parts manufacturer, a senior consultant with Touche Ross and a marketing representative for IBM. He is the trustee and past chairman of SIM’s Boston Chapter. 



George Brenckle |  Facilitator  |

Dr. George Brenckle has been in working in healthcare information techology for the past 29 years.  Most recently he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of UMass Memorial Healthcare. In this role he was responsible for all information services, telecommunications, and biomedical engineering support to the health system, and led the health system’s transformation from an organization that was primarily paper-based to one that is primarily electronic. In 2009, the Mass Technology Leadership Council recognized him as CIO of the Year.  More recently, Computerworld Magazine included him as one of the Top 100 CIO’s nationally for 2013.

 Before joining UMass Memorial, he was the Chief Information Officer for the University of Pennsylvania Health System (1997 to 2007), coming there from the Medical Center of Delaware (now Christiana Care) where he served as the Director of Operations. 

Dr. Brenckle is not a computer technologist by background, earning a BSc in Chemistry in 1976 from the University of Connecticut and a PhD. in Biochemistry in 1981 from Washington University in St. Louis. 

Dr. Brenckle is married (33 years) and the father of three boys, aged from 26 to 21.  His youngest son, Ian, just graduated from college this past May, and they are currently hiking the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia – a dream they both share. Dr Brenckle is active in Boy Scouts and currently serves as the Scoutmaster for a local Scout Troop. 


Karen Calvert  |  Facilitator  |

Facilitator Karen Calvert, a longtime VP of Information Services & Technology for Mary Kay Inc., brings her proven IT / business acumen, her experience in coaching and her passion for leadership development to RLF participants.  While at Mary Kay, Karen co-led the company’s Culture Committee, was a Wellness Ambassador for Mary Kay’s Wellness Program and was a Leadership Mentor in their Mentee-Mentor program.  Karen currently serves on the Board for the SIM Austin Chapter.  


Margot Carleton |  Facilitator  |

Margot is the CIO at BAMSI, a large non-profit located outside of the Boston area.  In this position, she oversees the Quality and Improvement and the IT teams supporting the compliance, risk and information technology needs for the agency.  Previously, she spent 25 years working at Kendall/Tyco Healthcare/Covidien, a medical device manufacturer where she was VP responsible for applications and acquisition integrations for corporate and several lines of business. Ms. Carleton graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Management Systems. She is an active member of SIM participating in the CIO Roundtable, completed SIM’s Regional Leadership Forum in 2009 and their Leadership Development Roundtable in 2010.  


June Drewry|  Facilitator and RLF Director of Administration & Finance |

June Drewry was the Global Chief Information Officer for Chubb & Son until her retirement in 2009. She currently is a Co-Director of The Institute For 21st Century Leadership, the Southeast Facilitator for SIM’s Regional Leadership Forum, and an Executive Coach with Treeline Consulting. She has also served on a number of non-profit and for-profit boards. As Director of Administration & Finance for RLF, she is responsible for setting and managing the budget, new product development and all support functions for the Institute. She is also the point person for all RLF support staff.

Ms. Drewry has extensive international experience in the insurance and financial services industry at the senior management level, as a corporate CIO, business unit CIO and as president of a third party administration subsidiary.

June served two terms as president of SIM International and has earned several awards throughout her career for innovative business use of technology and leadership in information technology.

Michael Garlich  |  Facilitator  |

Michael is a 2016 RLF graduate and a marketing / communications professional sharing the capabilities he honed while leading the successful marketing and communications strategies of major organizations during transformational expansion and change. His experience includes serving as the CMO / chief communications officer at one of Florida’s fastest-growing state colleges, as the VP of marketing for Central Florida’s largest privately-held employer, and leading the marketing and communications areas for two divisions of The Kroger Co.  He earned his Bachelor of Journalism in Advertising from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.  He is a longtime resident of Orlando, Florida and is actively involved in leadership and community activities in the Central Florida area.


Cliff Higbee  |  Facilitator and RLF Director of Curriculum & Programs  | 

Cliff Higbee is a Facilitator and a Co-Director of The Institute For 21st Century Leadership. He is the former Director of the Management Information Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He received his B.A. in Speech Communications from the University of Utah. He is a past Intermountain Chapter president, has served on the SIM Executive Board in several Vice President positions, and chaired the 1994 Annual Interchange Conference. Cliff has been a guest lecturer at Weber State University and The Salt Lake Community College. He holds an elected position on the Salt Lake City School Board and serves on the Advisory Boards for Weber State University and Utah State University.

As Director of Curriculum & Programs for RLF, Cliff is responsible for the content (curriculum) of all Institute programs and products. He is also the point person for the development and assignments of facilitators.



Ricky John  |  Facilitator  | 

Ricky John recently returned from the Middle East/Asia, in particular Iraq and Afghanistan, where He served Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR) in an ever-changing, high-powered environment, providing training and education to American, Iraqi and Afghan personal as part of KBR’s support of the global war on terrorism. With a dynamic presentation style and clear understanding of corporate objectives, He trained thousands in group and individual sessions.


Prior to Ricky’s work overseas, He served as a facilitator for SIM’s Regional Leadership Forum (RLF) for several years.


Currently, Ricky started an innovative healthy vending company called healty2organic in an effort to improve healthy food options in the workplace. He continues to have the pleasure of speaking nationally on a wide range of topics to include Principle Based Leadership in a Multicultural Environment, Ethical Behavior as a Guiding Principle, Zero Accident Workplaces, Active Listening and Making a Lasting Difference in the Lives of others.


Ricky is an active scuba diver, photographer and archeologist. He is the Father of five and Grandfather of two. 


Steven John  | Facilitator  | 

Steven John is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of AmeriPride Services, a leading textile services and supply company in North America. As a part of AmeriPride’s executive leadership team, Steven is responsible for the overall leadership of the Information Systems Team, enhancing the customer experience and accelerating the company’s growth strategy through digital innovation and technology.

John most recently served as the Strategic CIO and Vice President of Mid Market Services for Workday Inc., a leading provider of cloud-based enterprise applications for human resource management, payroll and finance. John created a new method for implementing Workday’s software and worked closely with IT leaders and their teams to realize the full benefits of cloud computing. He was an integral part of Workday’s senior leadership team and played a key role in the company achieving and maintaining the highest IT standards and processes.
John was previously the CIO at H. B. Fuller Company and Agriliance and also held leadership positions with the Society for Information Management (SIM), First Health, CIGNA, Unisource Network Services and Transora. For eleven years, he has also served as a facilitator for SIM’s Leadership Forum and he is a founding member of the CIO Executive Council. He has also served as a mentor in the CIO Executive Council’s Pathways program and a contributing writer to CIO magazine.

John was selected as a ‘Premier 100 IT Leader’ by Computerworld Magazine in 2006 and was presented the CIO Executive Council’s Leadership Award in 2008. Under his leadership, H.B. Fuller was ranked among the ‘Top 500’ leaders in business technology by Information Week in 2009 and he was also recognized by Information Week in 2010 as an industry innovator for his work implementing cloud solutions. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Utah and completed graduate work at Temple University


Molly Mahoney  |  Facilitator  | 


Molly is the Director of Operations for SIM, and a 2004 RLF graduate. She has also served as President of the SIM Central Florida Chapter and as a facilitator for several RLF programs. She has extensive project, program, software development and change management experience, and collaborates with senior level company cross divisional teams. Molly is also past President of the Ten Thousand Villages board, a fair trade retailer in Winter Park, FL.


Cheryl Morgan  |  Facilitator  |  

Cheryl has over 24 years’ experience as a leader in both IT and Business. In IT she has led development, testing and various support functions; in the business and operations area, she has led PMOs, testing, shared services and multiple support areas, as well as strategic planning and execution  functions.She is currently a VP at Travelers in Business Insurance. In addition, she has led the creation and direction of several leadership and technical development programs in IT at both CIGNA and Travelers and was instrumental in expanding the use of RLF at CIGNA by establishing an internal program.   


Bob Rouse  | Facilitator  |  

Bob is a founder of the St. Louis SIM Chapter and a Past President of SIM. For 15 years he has facilitated RLFs in the Midwest, Northeast, New York and the Chubb Internal Forum. He has served as a RLF Director for six years. Bob is Professor Emeritus, Computer Science at Washington University; he held many leadership positions at WU, including IT Strategy Director for the School of Medicine, automation lead for the Development Office, Assistant Dean, and Director of the Center for Intelligent Computing Systems. He is President of Red Eagle Advisors, a focused advisory practice for firms seeking leading edge business innovation for people+technology. 


Kevin Ryan  |  Facilitator and RLF Director of Marketing & Relationships  |  

Kevin Ryan is a Facilitator and a Co-Director of The Institute For 21st Century Leadership. He is a 2000 Graduate of RLF and has been involved with SIM at the Chapter and National level since then.

Kevin has extensive executive experience in business and technology at the Senior Management level. He has owned his own eCommerce business, was a Vice President at two Fortune 500 healthcare insurers, and has considerable leadership experience in civic and community roles. As president of his own eCommerce company from 2007 - 2012, his firm received awards for sales and customer service, developed an eCommerce arrangement with Amazon expanding the relationship from simple re-selling to hosting, inventory management, order-fulfillment, and credit card processing via a full cloud computing environment. He successfully sold this business in 2012 and continues to work in IT consulting and leadership development.

As Director of Marketing & Relationships for RLF, Kevin is responsible for overall brand and marketing of the Institute products, including relationships with SIM Chapters, media, and sponsors. He is also the point person for the RLF marketing and sales teams.


Ed Trainor  |  Facilitator  | 

Ed Trainor has served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in diverse industries over the past 25 years – i.e., airline, utility, entertainment and railroad. In the mid-1980s he served as CIO for Flying Tigers, the world's largest bulk cargo airline before they were acquired by Federal Express, after which he served as CIO for Southern California Gas Co, one of the nations largest transporters and distributors of natural gas. He next spent over 12 years leading Paramount Pictures’ information systems functions through numerous mergers, acquisitions and business transformation efforts and where he also helped initiate and develop Paramount’s anti-piracy efforts. In early 2007 he accepted the position of CIO for the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (aka Amtrak) where he led an enterprise-wide business process transformation effort before retiring in mid-2011. He is a past national President of the Society for Information Management (SIM) and is the co-author of two textbooks on information strategy.  Ed now works as an educator and consultant as well as a facilitator for SIM's Regional Leadership Forum (RLF.)


Corky Valenti | Facilitator |

Corky Valenti has more than 30 years of consulting and leadership experience in strategic  communications, marketing and technical communications, and training design and development for technology firms and IT departments of other businesses.  He is currently heading internal strategic communications for the IT Department at Asurion LLC in Nashville.  He also serves as New York Metro Forum Facilitator and Communications Consultant for RLF.  He previously held communications officer and leadership roles at JP Morgan Chase, Chubb Corporation, Aon Corporation and other software and technology companies.   Corky holds a B.A, in Psychology from the University of Illinois in Urbana and an M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Human Factors from Rice University.


Corky has worked with RLF since 2005 when he helped market the program. He attended the program in 2007, began providing communications and curriculum support in 2008, completed the Hartford LDR program in 2009, and received the Friend of RLF Award at SIMposium in 2012.  


Madeline Weiss | Facilitator | 

Madeline Weiss is President of Weiss Associates, Inc., a consulting firm ­specializing in strategy and change, particularly related to ­information management and technology. Utilizing her experience of over 30 years in management, organization strategy and change, and information technology, she consults for business, government, universities, and professional organizations. She is Program Director of SIM's Advanced Practices Council and has been an officer of SIM. Madeline has been an RLF facilitator since 1994.  She develops and conducts internal leadership programs for organizations as well.


 Jane Wiltshire | Facilitator | 

Jane Wiltshire has over 20 years of experience as a leader in Pharma and Information Technology, developing specialties in IT mergers and acquisitions, collaboration technologies, content management solutions and infrastructure. She is a senior leader in Pfizer’s Business Technology organization who has dedicated her career to unlocking the potential in people and technology, including fostering early interest in STEM fields in local schools and the hiring of entry-level talent to ensure a pipeline of gifted technologists and future leaders in the organization. Early in her own career, Jane held roles in communications, investor relations and graphic design before officially delving into the realm of information technology. Jane has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of California, San Diego. She is a member of the Society of Information Management (SIM) and a 2014 graduate of RLF.
