1. Please provide an overview of the SIM St. Louis chapter.
The SIM St. Louis chapter was formed in 2004.  We currently have 90 members.  Our biggest event is Gateway to Innovation which is a one day program. Over 10 years Gateway to Innovation has generated over $1 million in community giveback funding.

2. What is your role with the St. Louis chapter and your national role?
Currently, I am the interim VP of Finance for St Louis and have served in this capacity for 8 months.  In addition, I am Co-Chair for the 2017 Gateway to Innovation conference.Previously, I have been the VP of Finance and President for a total of 6+ years.  I am also currently a chapter representative on the SIM national board.

3. What are the hottest trends in the industry?
Security continues to be one of the hottest topics.  Staffing and filling gaps in skills is also increasingly an area that companies are facing.

4. What challenges is your chapter currently facing?
Our biggest challenge is how to grow our membership.

5. What is one piece of advice you will give to the next leaders within the St. Louis Chapter?
For any leader but specifically for St Louis, always be willing to challenge the past but ask for help and ideas from others.

The 4,000 graduates of SIM’s RLF (Regional Leadership Forum) programs have another option for continuing their transformational journey of personal and professional development – the Executive RLF.  Registration is now open at for the six-month program that enables senior leaders to expand their capabilities and influence at the executive level.

The 2017 Executive RLF will be guided by CIO Hall of Fame member Darwin John and strategic change consultant / executive coach Mary Jo Greil.  John is one of the leaders who created the RLF program more than two decades ago.

“The Executive RLF takes the time-tested, successful synergies of the RLF program to another level with an even more intense, interactive and introspective experience,” says John.  “In 2017 we will work with senior leaders from across the nation to build their executive competence, broaden their influence power, deepen their executive presence and advance their career journey.”

The 2017 Executive RLF will consist of four 2-day sessions in March, May, July and September at the Eaglewood Resort near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.  Additional continuous interaction with experts, mentors and program leaders will take place throughout the six-month program.

Results of the 2016 SIM Chapter Leaders of the Year Award

The SIM Leader of the Year Award recognizes members who contributed to the growth, advancement, and excellence of SIM at the chapter level. This year, four recipients were chosen by a panel of six judges and will be formally recognized next week at SIMposium.

We are grateful to all the nominees who individually and collectively exemplify a commitment to building their local communities and living SIM’s brand “where IT leaders connect. We also want to thank the six judges representing a cross section of the country: Deborah DeCorrevont, Arizona; Steve Pickett, Detroit; Bob Rouse, St. Louis; Paul Farrall, Seattle; Pat Randall; Boston; and Jeff Stovall, Charlotte (judges did not score a candidate from their home chapter).

Given the strength of the nominees, the judges felt it especially difficult to choose the award recipients, but in a carefully governed and objective scoring process, four finalists stood out. This year’s SIM Chapter Leaders of the Year are:

  • David Berndt, St. Louis
  • Bruce Leidal, Western New York
  • Pradeep Kumar, Portland
  • Susan Malisch, Chicago

Each winner will be honored at SIMposium on Monday, October 24.

Congratulations to the 2016 SIM Chapter Leaders of the Year!
