Leadership Spotlight: SIM Nashville Chapter, Phil Zwieg

1 Please provide an overview of the SIM Nashville chapter.
The Chapter is relatively small compared to others, having some 25 active members at the moment.  However, we have a Board that is very committed to the Chapter and we hope to take strong advantage of that commitment.  We are re-connecting with past members and actively soliciting new members.  Read more…

2 What are your goals for your term as the President of the SIM Nashville chapter?
With a number of Board members who have previous experience in other SIM Chapters, we expect to rely on that experience and strengthen the Chapter’s position in the Nashville IT Community.  We are also fortunate to have two RLF Facilitators in the Chapter who can use that program to build leadership skills in the area. Read more…
3. What are the hottest trends in the industry?
Like many other areas of the country, security and “the cloud” seem to be top of mind for everyone.  Another significant challenge in Nashville is the number of IT job openings, which can number as many as 1,000 at any point in time, paired with the relative scarcity of qualified prospects.  Read more…

4. What challenges is your chapter currently facing?
I see three.  First, growing our membership to make the Chapter a more viable organization.  Second, seeking alternate ways to fund our growth, meeting expenses and ability to contribute to the Nashville technology community.  Read more…

5. What is the one piece of advice you will give the next President of the SIM Nashville chapter?
Keep the Board fresh through building succession plans and avoid “burnout” in current members.

Transformational Change A Continuous Challenge For 21st Century Leaders
Enhancing senior leaders’ ability to lead transformations is a distinctive component of SIM’s 2016 Executive RLF program.

In today’s world of relentless change and continuous strategic shifts, the old axiom “change is the only constant” is strongly resonating with 21st century executives.  That’s why SIM’s Executive RLF program is helping senior leaders from across the nation learn how to strategically lead organizations through transformational change.

“It is important at the executive level to possess the skills to dig deeper and reach higher when confronted with transformational change,” says Darwin John, one of the three 2016 Executive RLF facilitators.  “That’s why we continually engage our program participants in strategic dialogues with more than a dozen current and former C-level experts who are readily sharing their experiences, principles, best practices and lessons learned related to the disruptions that accompany massive change.”  Read more...
