Leadership Spotlight: George Slogik,SIM Northeast Ohio

1. Please provide an overview of the SIM Northeast Ohio chapter.
The SIM Northeast Ohio Chapter has been around for about 20 years.  We serve northeast Ohio, but draw practitioners from western Pennsylvania as well.  Most of our members are from the Cleveland area.  We currently have around 80 members.

2. What are your goals for your term as the President of the SIM Northeast Ohio chapter?
Our primary goal is to re-energize and increase the engagement of our membership base. We have a common core of practitioners from year to year attending similar programs and events.  We need to shake it up, offer new programs and make NEO SIM the organization that IT leaders want to be a part of in north east Ohio.

3. What are the hottest trends in the industry?
Internet of Things (IOT) is probably the hottest trend going now.  We just recently had a panel of experts discuss this topic at a Chapter meeting.

4. What challenges is your chapter currently facing?
Growing the membership base and finding members who are willing to dedicate time to the Chapter.

5. What is the one piece of advice you will give the next President of the SIM Northeast Ohio chapter?
I am new in this role, so ask me again in a year.  However, I can tell you that a strong board is an important element of a successful Chapter.

NEW! SIM National Help Series Monthly Education Call

Last month, the SIM National Members-In-Transition program began an effort to hold monthly conference calls to help educate our members on various topics related to networking, job search, and moving your career forward. While this call is directed to our members-in-transition, all SIM members will benefit from joining these calls.

In last month's very successful and well attended call, Rhona Kannon, Director of Recruiting at CyberCoders, lead a conversation on two topics: How Recruiters use LinkedIn and Thinking Like an IT Person for Search Engines.

To listen to a recording of this call, please click HERE. (You might need to download the Adobe Connect add-on for your browser. For future calls, SIM will be using the Zoom platform).

The next call will be given by Ed Pospesil on Tuesday, December 13th at noon EST. The topic will be Networking Does Not Mean Exchanging Business Cards

There are future calls scheduled for 2017, which include:

  • Ask the Recruiter
  • Who Do I Want to Be When I Grow Up?
  • How to Develop and Market Your Personal Brand
  • Coaches Corner: Where the Marketplace is Going

Information for how to join these calls will be going out over the SIM MIT Yahoo Group. To join the Yahoo group, contact Veronica Sullivan. If you are interested in leading one of the calls, please contact Mitchell Schneider.

Please note: the series call-in number is different from the normal weekly MIT networking calls number. The Tuesday MIT call will continue normally on the weeks that do not have a series call. Also note that the Thursday 8 AM Eastern MIT call continues as scheduled, and continues to be well attended by both helpers and members-in-transition or members considering transition. All SIM members can benefit greatly by joining these calls!

IT Trends Study: Availability and Business Value are Top KPIs
IT performance measurement is challenging given the many activities, services, technologies, skills, and personnel required. While “Availability/Uptime” is by far the most used metric for both internal and outsourced IT, “Value of IT to the Business” tops the list of KPIs (key performance indicator) for CIOs. Yet Business Value is not even in the top ten for either in-house or outsourced IT. The word cloud below shows the relative selection frequency of the top-ten internal IT KPIs. Read more...
