The World Cafe - Enterprise Security

About this Conference: 
Based on popular demand the FWSIM board invites you to take part in a highly interactive session - "The World Cafe". This meeting will focus on cyber security and what life is as a corporate Security Officer and FBI Special Agent.

This session will be led by Executive Board Members.  We have Jane Domboski, Special Agent from the FBI, Tom Dunbar, Chief Information Risk Officer from XL Group and Matt Lagana, Director and Chief Information Security Officer from MBIA who will discuss a variety of security topics from BYOD, Cloud to data protection and IP. You will be an active participant in engaging roundtable sessions where you and your peers will share experiences and stories.

About the process during your evening at "The World Cafe", two rooms will be set (one for each topic). Your table facilitator will lead the (30 minute) discussion and scribe the findings to be read out at the end of the evening. After the first discussion facilitators will switch rooms for the second discussion. At the end of the two sessions, we will have a recap and a night cap.

Don't miss this highly engaging session as we look to raise the level of our leadership skills, and to shape the direction of our Chapter.    

About Our Speakers:                              

Jane Domboski
Special Agent, FBI

Jane Domboski is a Special Agent in the FBI's New Haven field office, where she has also served as the Chief Division Counsel, the FBI's attorney in Connecticut.  She is currently assigned to the cyber crime squad, where she works on computer intrusion investigations.  Prior to being transferred to New Haven, Special Agent Domboski worked out of the FBI's Washington D.C. field office.  

Special Agent Domboski has investigated a variety of cases which have taken her to Kenya, Israel, Kazakhstan, Italy, Egypt and Pakistan.  She has been certified and testified as a computer forensic examiner and holds various computer industry certifications.
Special Agent Domboski received her J.D. from the George Washington Law School.
Matthew Lagana
Chief Information Security Officer
MBIA, Inc.

Matt Lagana is Director and Chief Information Security Officer for MBIA, Inc. His responsibilities include protecting MBIA's network and computing infrastructure, including mobile computing, security policy, planning and architecture.
Matt's 20-year career began with Avon Products, where he held security positions of increasing responsibility, which led to managing the company's Global Information Protection practice. In 2000, he joined MBIA as the firm's first Chief Information Security Officer. A subject matter expert in Information Security, Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery, Corporate Governance, Operational Risk, Audit/Compliance, and Technology Infrastructure and Operations, Matt has wide-ranging experience in building strong internal control frameworks and aligning them with organizational needs and requirements. He has also worked in the area of Cyber and Mobile Security, and was a nearly champion and adopter of next generation network security platforms and Mobile Device Management.Matt has held the designation of CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) since 2002, and is currently an active member of both the Information Security Consortium and Computer Security Institute. Matt is currently pursuing an MBA from NYU with a concentration in the area of Strategy and Leadership and holds an undergraduate degree in Management of Information Systems from Iona College.           
Thomas Dunbar
SVP, Chief Information Risk Officer
XL Global Services, a member of the XL Group plc.

As Chief Information Risk Officer, Tom Dunbar holds global responsibility for XL Group's overall Information Risk Management program.  This includes the company's information risk and security strategies, tactics, planning, governance, architecture, and operations.  Mr. Dunbar is responsible for the company's information security policies and standards; and their associated awareness and education.  He oversees the company's IT forensics and eDiscovery efforts.  Additionally, he leads XL's IT compliance program which includes responsibility for Sarbanes Oxley and other regulatory requirements.  Mr. Dunbar is a member of the IT Leadership team, the Operations Risk Committee, and the Data Privacy Committee.  He joined XL in 2002 as their first Global CISO.

Mr. Dunbar has over 15 years experience in Information Security.  He holds both the CISSP and CISM certifications.  Prior to joining XL, he was Director of Information Security Programs at Citigroup where he was responsible for the management of information security officers through the Citigroup global network and the direction of Information Security programs including policy, standards, training, awareness, metrics, and financials.

Mr. Dunbar holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Mr. Dunbar is co-inventor of record on two patented Information Security effectiveness/measurement tools: Citigroup Information Security Evaluation Model (Citi-ISEM) and the Information Security Metrics Program.
Mr. Dunbar is the recipient of the 2006 SC Magazine Award CSO of the Year.

September Program: "IBM Global Technology Outlook 2012: The Future of Computing"

We are pleased to announce the September 20th FWSIM program will showcase IBM's Industry Solutions Lab. At this session, Dr. Mahmoud Naghshineh, Vice President, Services Research and Services Innovation Lab for IBM Research, will present on IBM's Global Technology Outlook, offering a survey of future computing and technology trends, including Smarter Cities, Analytics, Security and other topics.  He will be joined by Ms. Jeanette Horan, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of IBM and Ms. Frances West, Director of the Worldwide Human Ability and Accessibility Center in Research.  Ms. Horan and Ms. West will speak on the use of Social Media in IBM and People-Centric Innovation. 

Session participants will be able to tour the IBM Research Industry Solutions Lab, showcasing demonstrations of IBM's latest technology prototypes and innovations, from Watson to high temperature superconductivity.

About Our Speakers:

Dr. Mahmoud Naghshineh is Vice President, Services Research and Services Innovation Lab, where he is responsible for IBM's worldwide research efforts in services science, and services innovation in support of IBM's Technology and Business Services.  From 2010 to 2011 he was VP of Technology for IBM Global Technology Services business.  From 2005 to 2010, he was the director of services systems at IBM Thomas J Watson Research Center with world wide responsibility for next generation IT services Systems, technologies, processes and tools. From 2003 to 2005, Mahmoud was a partner at IBM Business Consulting Services, responsible for industry alliances. Prior to that, he was the director of emerging markets at IBM Systems and Technology Group. From 1990 to 2002, he worked at IBM Research and led areas of software and services related to Web-based infrastructure, mobile and wireless, secure computing platforms, telecommunications services, and service quality. He joined IBM Systems Group in 1988.

In 2002, Mahmoud was elected as a Fellow of the IEEE. He has led industry groups,National Science Foundation, and government research conferences and workshops.  He has served as the editor-in-chief of IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine, program co-chair of Mobi Com 2001, and chairperson for many IEEE/ACM conferences. He was an adjunct professor at the department of electrical engineering, Columbia University from 1997 to 2001.  He has published over 100 technical papers and holds a number of IBM outstanding recognition awards and patents.  He received his doctoral degree from Columbia University, New York.

In May 2011, Ms. Jeanette Horan was appointed Chief Information Officer of IBM.  Ms. Horan's organization supports operational excellence and drives IBM's transformation agenda - focusing on business transformation, workforce transformation, and IT transformation. Her organization is responsible for equipping IBMers with the technology and tools they need to better support clients and achieve IBM's objectives. Ms. Horan leads the development and implementation of a technology strategy aligned with the business that meets both the growth and productivity commitments of IBM's 2015 roadmap.  

Previously Ms. Horan was the Vice President of Enterprise Business Transformation. In this role, Ms. Horan led IBM's transformation program for key back office processes to accelerate IBM's leadership as a globally integrated enterprise. In partnership with IBM's Global Business Services and SAP, she led a multi-disciplinary, global team deploying simplified business processes worldwide.

Ms. Horan joined IBM in 1998, and has held leadership positions within the Lotus brand, Information Management and IBM Software Group Strategy.  Prior to joining the CIO office in 2006, Ms. Horan was responsible for worldwide product development for the Information Management business in Software Group, and was the General Manager of IBM's Silicon Valley Laboratory.

Prior to joining Lotus, Ms. Horan spent four years with Digital Equipment Corporation where she was Vice President of development for the Alta Vista business, bringing the Web search engine and suite of intranet products to market. She has more than 25 years' experience in development and management roles in the computer industry.

As part of her business and personal involvement in the advancement of technology and service to the community, Ms. Horan serves on the board of Microvision Inc., an innovative display and imaging solutions company.  She also serves as a director on the board of Jane Do No More, Inc., an organization committed to improving the way society responds to victims of sexual assault.A native of the United Kingdom, Ms. Horan earned a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of London and an MBA from Boston University.

Ms. Frances West, Director of the Worldwide Human Ability and Accessibility Center in Research will speak on the use of Social Media in IBM and People-Centric Innovation.

This session will be led by Beverly Lieberman, and experts in the various technologies. You will be an active participant in engaging roundtable sessions where you and your peers will discuss subjects such as Cloud/SaaS, Mobility, Business Analytics / Big Data and Social Media.

May Program: The 2012 Gartner Scenario: The Call For a New CIO Manifesto

Executives around the world have identified increasing economic and business growth as their highest priority. Since this will demand more from IT organizations than just cutting costs, it is time for CIOs to embrace a new CIO manifesto that will declare how generating revenue must become a new and central component of their IT organization's mission for the rest of this decade and beyond.

Key Issues:
-When will CIOs become money-making CIOs?
-Which elements of the new CIO manifesto will be most difficult to execute?
-Which long followed IT practices must CIOs abandon?


Ken McGee is a vice president and research analyst at Gartner in Stamford, Connecticut. Now in his 21st year at Gartner, Mr. McGee currently serves as a member of Gartner's Executive Leadership and Innovation group.

Mr. McGee focuses on:
(a) Working directly with boards of directors, CEOs, CFOs, and other senior executives to determine what these leaders demand and expect from information technology;

(b) Analyzing how IT is leading, or being led by, emerging technology, business and societal trends that will bring about fundamental shifts and new opportunities in our business and personal lives, and;

(c) Determining how individuals and organizations can effectively use real-time information to achieve a competitive advantage. He is the author of a book dealing with real-time information titled "Heads Up: How to Anticipate Business Surprises and Seize Opportunities First," published by Harvard Business School Press.

Mr. McGee is one of only 14 Research Fellows at Gartner. Among the responsibilities he performs in this role, he is the managing editor, primary author and project manager responsible for creating "The Gartner Scenario," Gartner's annual report on the current state and future directions of the IT industry.

March Program: Disruptive Technologies Just Over The Horizon

The world of personal computers, display screens, keyboards and the mouse have dominated both personal and business computing for the past few decades. Emerging technologies, previously considered plausible only in the context of science fiction, are rapidly becoming a reality. The dominance of video as a core medium for communication, speech recognition replacing the keyboard and mouse, automated analytics and many other capabilities are disrupting the paradigm of personal computing that has become so familiar. This disruption challenges CIO's to change the way they think about what they do. In this session, Dr. Norman Jacknis, of Cisco's strategic advisory think tank, will discuss the new paradigm of ubiquitous computing and communications between people and machines all over the globe. He will show many examples of the benefits and impacts of these disruptive emerging technologies. He will also present the bigger picture: the implications of these disruptive technologies for companies, the economy and society -- and, of course, the implications for what CIOs will have to do in the future.

Dr. Norman Jacknis, Director, Cisco's IBSG Public Sector Group (the company's open innovation and pro-bono strategic advisory group), is a globally recognized expert in government innovation and transformation. At Cisco, since 2008, he has worked extensively and in-depth with the National Association of Counties and the US Conference of Mayors. For the Mayors, he is developing a strategy for the economic viability of American cities in 2030. In addition to his work on economic development, he has also worked at both the Federal and local government level on the creation of collaborative environments for citizens to deliver public services. Dr. Jacknis has extensive executive and leadership experience in local and state government. Before joining Cisco in Feb. 2008, Jacknis served more than ten years as CIO and commissioner of Westchester County, NY government, where he was responsible for all of the government's technology, analytics, Internet and broadband activities, as well as technology-based economic development. In addition to the County government, he provided these services to municipalities and other non-profit community organizations.  Norm is currently the FWSIM chapters' Chairman Emeritus and over the years has held several leadership positions within our chapter including President.

February Program: Managing Innovation and Innovators

About the Event
IBM Chairman's Sam Palmisano has defined innovation as "The intersection of Invention and Insight". In a company of over 400,000 employees in 170 countries, how does one find this intersection, and how does one leverage it to help transform the enterprise.

In this session, Dr Francoise LeGoues will discuss the tools, programs and processes used by the IBM CIO's organization to enable collaborative innovation throughout IBM, and to identify, pilot, nurture and eventually bring to maturity those innovative solutions that are transforming the way IBMers do their job. She will also review a few examples of new technologies and solutions that have been introduced through this process to the IBM population and to IBM's clients.

About the Speaker
Francoise LeGoues is the Vice President for Innovation Initiatives in IBM's CIO's organization. She and her team are responsible for identifying, testing and transferring emerging technologies that have the potential for transforming IBM and the way IBMers work, communicate, and innovate. She joined the IBM Research Division after getting a Ph.D. in Material Sciences from Carnegie-Mellon University. As a Research Staff Member, and then as the manager of the "Materials Characterization" group, she authored over 150 scientific publications and obtained 4 patents.

She then held a number of positions at IBM, all of which had the common thread of bringing innovation to clients and to IBMers. As the manager of the Industry Solutions Lab, she managed three solutions labs worldwide, where customers can see, touch and play with the new technologies that IBM scientists are inventing, and where they can discuss and mold the use of these technologies in their own businesses. She also ran the First-of-a-Kind program, which seeds the deployment of emerging technologies to createinnovation in the marketplace, through joint Research/customer engagements.

As the Director of Innovation, in the Applications Management Services business unit, she built a team of senior IT architects to help grow the AMS business through technical leadership. In her most recent role as VP and CTO for the Distribution Sector, in IBM's Sales and Distribution organization, she used innovation throughout IBM to help define and build new industry solutions and to help clients define their own technology strategy. She is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, and a member of the IBM Academy.
