Please join us at the 9th Annual Washington Area CTO Roundtable Summit.

How far we’ve come from punched cards! Interactions between computers and humans have become so natural and ingrained that we find our children using touchpad devices before they’ve mastered speech. But the frontier of human computer interaction is just that… still a frontier. The developments from both academia and industry promise revolutionary changes in the way we use smart machines. The CTO Roundtable is bringing together the leaders in human computer interaction technology for this year’s Summit. The Summit has established a reputation for bringing you ideas and new technology way before it becomes mainstream. We believe this program is no exception.

Our featured speakers include the senior technologists from Hillcrest Labs, and zSpace, and Dr. Ben Shneiderman. Hillcrest Labs in 2001 reinvented the TV user experience in 2001 by creating what is now known as "Smart TV". They followed up that innovation by creating the first motion-based TV remote control using inertial sensors, and has led its growth to become the leading global supplier of software, hardware, and intellectual property for motion-enabled products. zSpace produces leading edge technology that enables natural interaction through virtual-holographic 3D imagery. Dr. Shneiderman, our keynote speaker has long been a pioneer in human computer interaction--a short bio follows. As in all previous Summits, the audience will consist of approximately 120 technology leaders from our area attending on an invitation basis. With this audience, Summit side discussions are the added highlight of the evening.

Dr. Ben Shneiderman Ben Shneiderman (resume) is a founding director of the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory, and a member of the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He pioneered the highlighted textual link in 1983, and it became part of Hyperties, a precursor to the web. His move into information visualization spawned Spotfire, known for pharmaceutical drug discovery and genomic data analysis. Dr. Shneiderman has written some very influential books in the field, including but certainly not limited to Designing the User Interface: Effective Strategies for Human-Computer Interaction, which is now in its fourth edition, and Leonardo's Laptop: Human Needs and the New Computing Technologies.. See for a full bio.

The Washington Area CTO Roundtable is an informal network of 250+ CTOs from the DC area. The primary charter of the group is to educate our members on the events and trends poised to have an impact on the technology industry. The group draws membership from a broad range of industries and includes companies like The Washington Post, Navy Federal, comScore, Verisign, IBM, CACI, Freddie Mac, The College Board and Valhalla Capital.
