SIM New Special Interest Group to Host Webinar

SIM National has started a new special interest group, SIM Authors., Led by Colleen McIntyre & Andrew Jackson, SIM Authors is a group for members to connect and network with authors and others who are interested in spreading their ideas through books and other publishing vehicles. 

Not a natural wordsmith? Don't worry. The group will explore how to transfer your great idea to a book through the help of ghostwriters and other tools and resources. 

Using the depth of SIM's rich and diverse membership, two published authors, Jack Barsky and Gregory Fell will facilitate launch activities and share how behind-the-scenes tips from their book publishing experiences.

Our expert panel of SIM authors will share their writing journey and tips on what it takes to get started, selecting a publisher, and the promotion of finished works.

The group will be having their first webinar next month on February 27th at 1 pm EST. The webinar will feature 3 authors, Eric Bloom, Brian Watson, and Dr. Tony Gerth. 

SIM Webinar Speaker Eric Bloom Eric Bloom is the Executive Director of the IT Management and Leadership Institute, author of the book “Office Influence: Get What You Want from The Mailroom to the Boardroom”, an Amazon bestselling author, speaker, trainer and executive coach.

Eric is also a former nationally syndicated columnist, TEDx speaker, and recognized thought leader on the use of influence in the workplace.  He is also a Past President of National Speakers Association New England, a Certified Professional Speaker (CSP), and the author of various other books, including “Productivity Driven Success” and “The CIO’s Guide to Staff Needs, Growth, and Productivity”.  Prior to his current role, Eric was a senior IT executive at various firms such as Fidelity Investments, Monster.com and Independence Investments.
SIM Webinar Speaker Brian Watson
Brian Watson, Partner at Traction Technology and Co-Author of Confessions of a Successful CIO: How the Best CIOs Tackle Their Toughest Business Challenges (Wiley, 2014). 

Brian Watson has collaborated with CIOs and senior technology executives throughout his career as an advisor, author and analyst. He is a Partner with Traction Technology, where he helps these business-technology and digital leaders and their teams shape their innovation and emerging technology strategies. Prior to joining Traction Technology, he was Co-Head of CIO Networks at Metis Strategy, a business and technology strategy consulting firm. He previously served in various editorial leadership capacities at Ziff Davis Enterprise, most notably as Editor-in-Chief of CIO Insight. Brian also co-authored Confessions of a Successful CIO: How the Best CIOs Tackle Their Toughest Business Challenges, with Dan Roberts, and they are currently working on a follow-up that will detail some of the best successes in digital transformation and leadership. He speaks frequently at technology leadership events and writes about IT leaders for CIO.com. Brian earned a Bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University and a Master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He lives in Fairfield County, CT, with his wife and two sons.
SIM Webinar Speaker Dr. Tony Gerth

Dr. Tony Gerth is a Clinical Professor with the G. Brint Ryan College of Business at the University of North Texas teaching strategic management of IT and business analytics.  He is also an executive coach who helps CIOs make successful transitions.  Previously he taught at the Kelley School of Business.  Prior to his academic career he was a management consulting partner at Deloitte and Infosys Consulting.

He has been a frequent speaker regarding CIO leadership and soft skills for technology professionals for organizations such as SIM, ISACA, IIA, APICS, Pink Elephant, Value Council, and Gartner.  He is a member of SIM and the Association of Information Systems (AIS). His research has been published in Communications of AIS, Proceedings of AMCIS, MIS Quarterly Executive, Business Horizons, and the Journal of Information Systems Management.  He is the author of “Taking the Reins as CIO:  A Blueprint for Leadership Transitions”.
