2018 SIM Detroit STEM Scholarship for High School Seniors

SIM Detroit is happy to announce the 2nd Annual SIM Detroit 2018 STEM Scholarship Program for current high school seniors for use in a Michigan-based STEM-related field of study in a four-year college or university or a two-year community college.


"Science and technology drive the global economy and modern society. Progress depends on our students pursuing STEM fields," said Mark Cybulski, President of SIM Detroit. "We’re honored to do our part to support the next generation with our 2018 pledge, and look to expand in the future. We wish all of our applicants the best of luck in earning these scholarships towards their STEM-related degree."


Five $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students who:

  1. Are nearing completion, or have completed, high school and aim to pursue an undergraduate degree in a STEM-related field.
  2. Have achieved a minimum of a 3.5 grade average (official transcript required).
  3. Have already applied to, or have been accepted into, a degree program in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math at an accredited institute of higher education in Michigan.
  4. Complete 700-word essay on one of the topics provided in Section 11 of the application.
  5. Submit a faculty letter of recommendation.


The deadline for submitting the completed application and all supporting documentation is 4PM EST on March 31st, 2018.

2017 SIM Detroit STEM Scholarship for High School Seniors

The winners of the SIM Detroit inaugural SIM Detroit 2017 STEM Scholarship Program were:

  • Jorge Acevedo of International Technology Academy (Pontiac).
  • Nathan Li of Clarkston High School.
  • Raahul Ravi of Troy High School.
  • Arnav Ramu of Troy High School.
  • Eric Smith of Lake Orion High School.

SIM Detroit was pleased to present the awards in person during the recent Midwest Technology Leaders symposium at The Henry on April 26th. Mr. Cybulski and SIM Education Committee chair Kiran Sekhri presented the awards to Nathan Li and Arnav Ramu.
