SIM is a professional non-profit society that provides Central Florida's Chief Information Officers and other IT leaders the opportunity:

  • To give back to the community, to further create opportunity for others and enhance Central Florida's reputation nationwide as a community of outstanding technology leaders. This is accomplished through mentoring, scholarships, community involvement and speaker programs;
  • To learn from contemporaries, business executives, technology experts, and community leaders by leveraging shared experiences;
  • To enable career development through increased knowledge and greater exposure in the community and help develop the next generation of IT leaders;
  • To network among peers who become confidantes, avisors, and friends;
  • To act as the voice of the IT community on critical issues.

The Central Florida Area Chapter of SIM is the regional organization for top information executives in Central Florida. Its members include senior information technology executives from various local private and public industry organizations, government agencies, and universities.

Members meet monthly to hear presentations by top practitioners, industry leaders, and nationally recognized experts in information systems and management practices. These meetings offer members an opportunity to discuss important managerial and technical issues and concerns with their peers from industry and government.

Meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month (except August) with an annual CIO Summit held in February.

HISTORY:
In 1997 several leading CIOs in the Central Florida area were trying to establish a non-competitive environment for CIOs where they could share in knowledge and work experiences. The founding fathers were Andy Wing, Rick Sickles and Ron Maciejewski (Orlando Utilities Commission). Andy Wing was the group’s President and began the recruitment process, encouraging Hugh Moore of Siemens, Jim Dekle from ABC Fine Wines and Spirits and Garrett Grainger from Dixon Ticonderoga Company to join and become founding members and leaders of the new group called the Central Florida CIO Council. Years later, another member of the Council, Dave Razmussen, challenged the group to convert to an affiliate chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM). This was a watershed decision in our growth. We officially became SIM chapter in 2001.
