"There are two types of company - those who know they have been hacked, and those who don't." In this presentation, Jim Noble and Alan Guibord will discuss the materiality of the risks posed by cyber threats. Jim will provoke debate by justifying his controversial views that many enterprises don't care, most enterprises don't know, and almost all enterprises are incapable of effective response. Jim will cite case studies that show the extent of the problem, and then go on to describe approaches for prevention, detection and reaction.
Alan has more than 35 years of global IT management experience, and is the Founder and Chairman of The Advisory Council (TAC). Prior to founding TAC, Al was President and Chief Executive Officer of Computerworld, International Data Group’s flagship weekly magazine for IT leaders.
Prior to joining Computerworld, Mr. Guibord was Vice President and CIO at Fort James Corp., an international consumer products company with more than $9 billion in sales, 28,000 employees and more than 60 manufacturing facilities around the world. Previously, Mr. Guibord was Vice President Information Technology for RR Donnelley and Sons. He had global responsibility for all IT and telecomm. Before joining RR Donnelley and Sons, Mr. Guibord was Chief Information Officer of PictureTel, Inc.
Mr. Guibord has been a member of several key executive advisory boards, including Oracle and Microsoft. Al has strong ties to SIM, having founded two Chapters. He will be a featured speaker at SIMposium in Boston in the fall of 2013.
Mr. Guibord is a frequent speaker on IT leadership and organizational strategy. He published his first book, the IT Leadership Manual, in September 2012 (John Wiley & Sons).
Jim is widely recognized as one of the world’s thought leaders in achieving worthwhile business results from investments in IT. Jim is the only person to have been voted "CIO of the Year" in both Europe and North America. In 2012 Jim won CIO Magazine’s award for the innovative use of technology. Jim has advised governments and heads of state on technology strategy, and helps teach the next generation of IT leaders at Columbia University (New York) and the University of Calgary (Haskayne Business School). Jim was also Dean of the IT Academy at General Motors and BP. His book The CIO’s Secret Playbook is scheduled for publication in 2013.
