SIM Minnesota is proud to have Charles Betz from Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) as our featured speaker and panel moderator where Beyond ITIL: An effective management framework for IT will be the topic.

During the first hour, Charles will share his perspectives based on his practitioner experience at EMA research and discuss his recently published book, Architecture and Patterns for IT: Service and Portfolio Management
 and Governance
.

·         The strengths and weaknesses of the "big 3” IT frameworks (ITIL, COBIT, and CMMI)

·         A simplified process approach

·         Lean IT, Kanban, and the emergence of "single queue” unified IT demand management

·         Data management and analytics for IT management, including the potential of text analytics

·         How IT management products can be integrated for end to end value

The second hour will be a panel and open floor discussion moderated by Charles and will consist of local IT executives sharing their perspectives on IT management frameworks and systems.

·         The challenge of managing diverse IT work across projects, services, and continuous improvement

·         The ongoing challenge of IT management data

Charles, who is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, services IT Portfolio and "Business of IT” management professionals on behalf of Enterprise Management Associates.

As a noted analyst, author, blogger, and enterprise architecture practitioner, he speaks frequently at local and national events, and is often interviewed by the IT press. His EMA responsibilities include IT portfolio management, IT financial management, software asset management, service desks and ITSM suites, and the concept of "ERP for IT.”

Recently, he spent 6 years at Wells Fargo as Enterprise Architect and VP for IT Portfolio Management and Systems Management, where he consulted broadly across the bank’s $6 billion IT operations regarding process, data, and systems for the "business of IT.” He spent the last two years building a data warehouse for IT performance, and also established the architectural protocols for application rationalization and decommissioning for the Wells Fargo/Wachovia merger.

He has held architect positions for Best Buy, Target, and Accenture, specializing in IT management systems, ERP, enterprise application integration, and configuration management.
