Have you been part of an information management initiative that exhibited uniqueness, organizational impact, innovation, re-applicable principles, and measurable results?
If you were part of, or have researched, a successful initiative with the above criteria, the SIM 2008 Paper Awards Committee invites you to submit an abstract describing this initiative. The work described must be implemented and have had a significant impact on the organization involved.
The first author should be a manager in the organization where the work was implemented. Since SIM’s thrust is toward executive management, the work should describe topics of interest to senior Information Systems executives. Winning papers are a collaborative effort between academics and practitioners.
WHY ENTER THE COMPETITION?
This is an excellent way to gain widespread recognition and visibility for the work you are doing both in the field and in your organization while sharing useful information with fellow SIM members. You are encouraged to look at copies of the winning papers from recent years on www.simnet.org.
RECOGNITION OF WINNERS
Recognition will be given to up to three papers at SIMposium 2008 and all winning papers will be featured on SIMnet. In addition, the author(s) of the first place paper will be asked to present the paper at SIMposium in November in Orlando, Florida. All winning papers will also be considered for publication in MISQ Executive, although some reformulation may be required to meet academic journal guidelines.
The program is closed for 2008. Details are provided for those previously notified.
Step #2: SUBMIT FULL PAPER
Deadline: Monday, June 23rd
All finalists selected from the initial review will be invited to submit a full version of the paper by the above deadline. All complete papers should also be submitted electronically as an attachment in Microsoft Word by the above deadline to Awards Committee Chair Jerry Luftman at jluftman@stevens.edu and SIM Senior Academic Program Manager Ruth Nelson at rnelson@simnet.org
Your paper should describe the system, approach, or method used. The work described should be presented in a case study format and clearly describe the problem or opportunity, the environment where the situation existed, what was done, why it was significant, the measurable results and what others can learn from the presented material. Topic tutorials or new technology descriptions alone are NOT being sought for this competition.
Please note: SIM reserves the right to distribute your paper upon submission.
JUDGING CRITERIA
Specifically, each entry is judged according to five basic criteria:
1. Innovation: Are any new strategies and/or approaches described? Do they add to leading practices?
2. Impact: Does the paper address the real problem? Is the problem solved or diminished? Is it a managerial (not technical) issue? Is a significant part of the organization impacted? What performance measures reflect success? Do principles exist that could enhance that body of information management knowledge?
3. Implementation: Is the innovation operational? What is the breadth of the implementation? Does the organization plan to extend the innovation?
4. Re-applicability: Is the approach applicable to others? Can knowledge be transferred to others?
5. Appeal and Readability: Is there broad interest in the problem across industries and cultures? Will the paper appeal to SIM membership? Is the paper brief, clear, and to the point? Is the paper written with empathy for the reader?
The SIM 2008 Paper Award winners will be determined by late July.
