Abstract:
As many professionals have recently discovered, especially those in the executive ranks, one’s career prospects are only as good as the strength of the personal “brand” they’ve built for themselves out in the market. Few candidates can count on their skills and qualifications alone being enough to create opportunities in today’s turbulent, hyper-connected economy. Relationships and reputation management are key ingredients of success. Unfortunately, many professionals have spent little time attending to this critical aspect of their ongoing marketability quotient and have failed to embrace many time-tested methods – as well as emerging new social media tools -- that can help one shore up their reputation as an “A Player” within their occupational category or industry niche.
In this upcoming presentation, Matt Youngquist, founder of Career Horizons, will discuss the essential elements that consistently set the most successful professionals apart from their less-marketable peers in the current marketplace. He’ll present a series of common-sense tips that people can use to develop a sterling reputation and build a strong safety net of healthy, strategically-valuable relationships. He’ll also discuss the role that three key factors (Expertise, Professionalism, and Likeability) play in the personal branding process, along with a variety of different methods professionals can use to promote themselves effectively, whether actively employed or between assignments. At the end of the day, we’re all only as good as the reputations that surround us, both on-line and off-line, so it’s never too late to start managing yours – on purpose!
