Anand Padmanabhan, VP CIO Liaison to Institutions
Anand Padmanabhan has been the Chief Information Offcer (CIO) at NYU’s Stern School of Business since August 2006, where he provides executive leadership and vision for strategic development, information management, and technology to support Stern’s mission, strategic goals, and academic priorities. He has over 10 years of leadership experience in higher education information technology environment. His background includes extensive experience in strategic planning, information security, disaster recovery and risk planning, ERP implementation, enterprise architecture planning, and IT governance. He has a strong record of bringing IT benefits to solve business issues while managing costs and risks, and he is a dedicated leader focused on enabling and developing his staff to be strategic leaders and managers.
Prior to joining Stern, Mr. Padmanabhan was the CIO and Assistant Vice President of Instructional Computing and Information Technology at City University of New York’s (CUNY) Hunter College. He was also previously the Director and CIO of Communication and Information Technologies at Tennessee State University and Executive Director of Information and Communication Technologies at Seton Hill University. During his tenure at Hunter College, he managed a team of 150 IT professionals and a budget of over $10M. One of his major accomplishments was to design, plan, and implement an upgrade of the entire campus network and data infrastructure in an urban environment (at five multi-buildings locations within New York City). He architected services for secure wireless networks, VoIP, next-generation learning spaces, course management, budget management, and integrated scholarship management systems. Anand also launched the education technology group and the IT productivity enhancement initiative, chaired the CUNY Security and Disaster Recovery Committee, and served on the CUNY IT Governance Committee. Prior to Seton Hill University, he worked for the NASA Center for Educational Technologies.
Anand holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Madras University and a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Louisiana State University. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and is currently completing his PhD in Computer Science at the City University of New York.
