SCSIM Membership Criteria |
Thank you for
your interest in the Southern California Chapter of SIM (SCSIM). Established in
1968, the Society for Information Management (SIM) is the premier
not-for-profit organization of information technology experts, including CIOs,
CTOs and emerging IT leaders.
SIM’s wealth
of information and outreach capacity is a direct result of its diverse
membership. In addition to being IT
leadership-focused, SIM membership spans across industries, concentrations and
professions.
To continue
fostering a valuable membership experience, ensuring a quality exchange, and
representative influence, SCSIM's three member categories are:
Information Technology Executives
A
senior-level IS/IT professional in either a for-profit or non-profit
organization, meeting the following criteria:
- CIOS and CTOs at a corporate or divisional
level.
- Direct reports to CIOs and CTOs, such as Vice Presidents or Directors of IS/IT.
- Directors of IS/IT who are two levels removed from the CIO, with significant or strategic management responsibilities, such as application or infrastructure portfolios.
Academic Professionals
A university
or college faculty member or senior administrator with significant interest in
the IS field.
Consultants
Leaders at the partner/principal level who influence the direction of
their own company or their clients’ companies, and who directly contribute to
the IS profession. To qualify, these
individuals must be able to demonstrate that they operate at a senior executive
level and that their responsibilities revolve around performing strategic or consulting services, not primarily in selling services. Accepted individuals understand that SCSIM
maintains a strict "no solicitation” policy.
Consultants comprise a limited percentage of overall chapter membership,
and those consultants who are welcomed as members are practitioners who add value
to our chapter members with their domain knowledge and expertise.
SCSIM’s Application Process
Applications
are submitted online, then are reviewed by the Membership Chair of SCSIM to
assure qualifications are met. If an
applicant’s level of responsibility is not clear from the information provided,
the applicant may be contacted for a brief interview. After review by the Chapter’s Board,
applicants will be notified of the Board’s decision.
